"This work is what people will want in the new millennium."
- Joseph Pilates, 1928
Pilates has been building better bodies for nearly a century and Joseph Pilates himself knew he was ahead of his time.
Pilates mat work is based on three principles: Proper breathing, spinal flexibility and core strength. The Mat work is a systematic series of exercises that are performed in a slow and controlled manner, focusing on the deepest abdominals supporting the spine.
Exercises are performed with a specific breathing sequence in order to maximize strength in the diaphragm (the breathing apparatus) and expansion of the back muscles. The results are longer, leaner muscles, a quieter mind and a lifting of the spirit.

| The teachers at Alphastate are trained in the Classical Method of Pilates created by Joseph Pilates. This creates a deep understanding of the Pilates Method.
Each teacher brings over twenty years of practice and a rich knowledge of modern dance, ballet, kinesiology (the study of what makes the body move and how) and somatic education. Class sizes are small, so there is plenty of individualized attention. |

Private Pilates training on the equipment is available by appointment. Working with the equipment allows one to resist the strength of springs, allowing for a deeper use of the muscles, and more controlled movement. Private Pilates training is also good for those rehabilitating from injuries, to gain strength, control, balance and flexibility.
During each Private Pilates Training session, you will receive one-on-one instruction from a teacher with expertise, experience, and dedication to the Classical Pilates Method. Each of our teachers has extensive knowledge of human anatomy. Our teachers encourage and practice continued passion for the Classical Pilates Method through education and self-exploration. |
